New items at Next

Recently, several Star Wars fan sites have reported the exciting find of Star Wars clothes for girls available from UK store Next. I noticed that the clothing was available in sizes 3 to 16 – the larger girl’s sizes overlap with the smaller women’s sizes (although children’s sizing also takes height into account). I bought the leggings and the crew top in size 14 (the closest to my 5’3″ height on the chart), which have just arrived. Prices range from £12 to £22 (US$22 to US$40) depending on size, they can ship internationally.

Shop the girls Star Wars range at Next UK, at the US website (or select your country from the bottom bar)

The girl’s Star Wars crew top is sewn from a purple and pink starry sky printed fabric, with a white Star Wars logo as part of the print on the front. The garment tag notes the fabric is 62% polyester, 38% cotton – a nice lightweight material, but not the usual sweatshirt type fabric. The photos on the website showed the sleeves rolled up in a cuff style – but they are not sewn like that, as you can see in my photos. This size 14 top measures approximately 56cm across the chest (underarm to underarm), 54cm from front neckline to hem, while the sleeves measure 44cm from shoulder seam to sleeve end. While I expected the sleeves to be a little on the shorter side (being a children’s item), they’re not too bad for my height – but I wasn’t expecting such a large measurement across the chest. As this size 14 isn’t the largest size available, this top could easily work for some women as well – in a rolled up sleeves/casual style if you’re taller/have longer arms. I was drawn to it for it’s colour, I love the purple print – it’s not too bright or overwhelming, which works well for adults.

The leggings are sewn from printed Star Wars fabric, which features a repeating print of classic comic artwork. This size 14 pair measures approximately 35.5cm across the waist band, 90.5cm in length from waist band to lower hem. For comparison, laid flat they are a little bit larger than a pair of my size small women’s Star Wars leggings from Mighty Fine, (which measure approximately 30.5cm across the waist band and 92cm in length from waist band to lower hem). The fabric is 60% polyester, 33% cotton, 7% elastane, so they have a nice amount of stretch. I really like the comic artwork print, particularly the prominent inclusion of Princess Leia.
