Today’s review features the Princess Leia cameo necklace by Body Vibe. Released back in November 2015, I bought this necklace as soon as I could find it. There is not as much Princess Leia themed jewelry as there should be, so I’m always on the lookout for new designs to add to my collection.
The necklace is available on Amazon (from both Amazon.com and sellers) – prices range from US$24.09 to US$30.00 each, while shipping rates/policies vary by seller.
Princess Leia cameo choker necklace – US$24.09 to US$30.00 each
The necklace came packaged on a branded cardboard backing card, with the necklace length tucked into a clear plastic pocket on the back. Please note the price tag on the bag is not applicable, as I bought mine on sale locally (discounted price in New Zealand dollars). The pendant is made from Stainless Steel, like most of the Body Vibe x Star Wars jewelry range.
The necklace features a cameo pendant of Princess Leia, hung from a black velvet choker necklace. The velvet was a little creased from storage, but it smoothed out nicely with a little time and use (my photos were taken before wearing).
To me, this necklace is pretty special – it uses a photo of Carrie Fisher, rather than artwork. While Princess Leia will always hold a special place in my heart, it is nice to have a reminder of Carrie herself. The image is a promotional photo from A New Hope, of Princess Leia in her classic white dress and aiming a blaster. I think it captures Leia rather well, ready to fight for the Rebellion. A lot of Star Wars jewelry uses the ‘I Love You’ – ‘I Know’ quote, which is shared with Han Solo – this necklace focuses just on Leia.
The pendant hanger is silver-tone, with a flat triangular shape. The height of the hanger is just a little bit smaller than the width of the velvet ribbon, so it does ‘pinch’ it down a little – but the weight of the pendant tends to do that to the velvet when worn anyway. This is my only Star Wars necklace with velvet ribbon – it is certainly not a common style. I wore a few velvet chokers during my teenage years, so I’m personally rather fond of them, but it is easy to swap the pendant onto another necklace chain/style if you prefer.
I am usually drawn to modern jewelry designs, but the antique style pendant setting is quite pretty. The scrolling border design is accented with black antiquing, which coordinates well with the black velvet choker. The pendant measures approximately 3.8cm tall, 3.2cm wide, and about 3mm deep. The plastic image covering is fairly flat and low profile (not domed). The back of the pendant is flat, and etched with the standard copyright text ‘© & ™ Lucasfilm Ltd.’ noting this is a licensed item.
The necklace is adjustable, with 4.5cm of silver-tone adjustment chain and a lobster style clasp. The velvet ribbon itself measures 30cm long, but the clasp and adjustment length means the wearable size length is 33.5cm to 38cm.
This was a special necklace in my collection, but even more so since Carrie Fisher passed away. I am passionate about celebrating female Star Wars characters with my wardrobe, and Princess Leia especially means so much to me. The velvet ribbon choker is a refreshing variation amongst my collection of Star Wars necklaces, I am tempted to swap a few of my other pendants onto ribbons as well! The velvet adds a subtle feminine touch, while the black and silver colour scheme goes with so many outfits.
