Review – 1980 R2-D2 & C-3PO necklace

For The Empire Strikes Back the Star Wars jewelry license was held by Wallace Berrie. According to the Collectors Archive, they produced four necklaces – Chewbacca, Darth Vader, R2-D2, and R2-D2 & C-3PO. Interesting that with only four designs, R2-D2 was featured twice. I recently picked up the R2-D2 & C-3PO necklace on ebay for US$17.99. That’s a little higher priced than the rings from the same collection, but the necklaces seem to be a little harder to find.

It came in the same blue cardboard box as the rings, with a plastic window front insert. The pendant itself is gold toned, with neat enamelled details. The back is stamped ‘(c) 1980 LFL W Berrie Taiwan’. The pendant measures approximately 22mm wide, while the non-adjustable chain measures approximately 55cm long. It is in good condition, with no major damage or wear besides a small scratch on the back. It goes quite nicely with the matching ring from the same collection, as you can see in the size comparison photo below. I am happy to have this in my collection, definitely keen to track down the other three pendants to complete the set.
