She makes a fantastic range of Star Wars inspired bead bracelets, featuring characters and quotes across all the Star Wars films and even from the animated series. I am always excited to find prequel themed accessories, as well as Rebels!

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to ask Katie a few questions about BeadTwisted, her thoughts on prequel inspired fashion, and how she got started making geek themed accessories. Read on for the full interview and photos –

How long have you been creating geek jewelry?

BeadTwisted has been open for almost two years now, but we started adding fandom jewelry to our shop about a year ago. At first, we weren’t sure how well the fandom bracelets would do, but we quickly realized that they were selling better than our other beaded bracelets.

What inspired you to start designing and creating geek themed jewelry?

I’ve always been a very big fan of Star Wars, Marvel, DC, and others. When I started making jewelry, I wanted to express myself through the color combinations and designs. Then one day I got to thinking about how much I was into Star Wars, ect. And I wanted to express my fandoms as well. I suppose I was inspired the most by others who had created either fan-art or fan-made items and were expressing their love for their favorite characters and fandoms.

Do you have any particular favourite Star Wars fashion brands (licensed or fan made)?

I love ThinkGeek, Society6, and Her Universe! In fact, I can’t get enough of their Star Wars items and all the things they have to offer for other fandoms as well!

Do you have a personal favourite design from your own range of Star Wars themed jewelry?

I personally love the Ahsoka Lives bracelet the best out of my Star Wars themed bracelets. My favorite Star Wars character is Ahsoka, followed closely by Obi Wan Kenobi. So I’d have to say the Ahsoka Lives bracelet, then the Obi Wan Kenobi bracelet right after it.

It can be hard to find prequel themed accessories – what inspired you to include prequel (and animated series) characters in your range?

In my opinion, some of the best characters and story plots come from prequels. I think that I was inspired to add them in because of how much I loved those characters and the shows they belonged too. I also noticed that for the prequels and animated series there weren’t a lot of fandom items, which I think is a shame. So I decided to start making them available in my shop so that others like me, who love those prequel characters, could find fandom items with them on it.

What materials do you use to create your jewelry?

I use stainless steel fine wire, and glass seed beads, as well as toggle clasps. Depending on the bracelet, I may use acrylic letter beads, or a metal pendant.

Can customers commission you for custom jewelry designs?

Absolutely. I believe that customers should be able to make their bracelet into exactly what they want. Several of BeadTwisted’s orders are actually custom made, which I always love because I get to see the original ideas of my customers and put together a bracelet just for them.

Which is the best way for fans to get in touch with you regarding purchasing an item?

The best way to contact me would probably be through email (raven.storm.worker@gmail.com) or via Etsy.

Where can fans follow BeadTwisted on social media?

BeadTwisted does have a Facebook page. We post some of our newest designs, any sales that are going on in the shop, and also keep customers updated with any items that may be going away or are about to become unavailable. https://www.facebook.com/BeadTwisted-465510130286734/
