Preen by Thornton Bregazzi

It’s no surprise when a film as popular as Star Wars gets it’s tie-in fashion items, we’ve seen t-shirts with Star Wars logos and characters since those first blockbuster days in 1977. What is quite interesting is when Star Wars fashion reaches the runways. The fashion label Preen by Thornton Bregazzi recently created a collection with a Star Wars touch – the familiar helmet of Darth Vader featured in the fall/winter 2014 collection. Debuting at London Fashion week in February, the Star Wars pieces included dresses and shirts – my favourite is the white shirt with Darth Vader surrounded by TIE fighters, so gorgeous (also worn by Julia Roberts during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live). The collection was also featured in the ‘Star Wars Fashion’ article in the August/September issue of Star Wars Insider Magazine.

I very much enjoy seeing designers like Preen co-founder Justin Thornton express their love of Star Wars in their runway collections. Interestingly, some of Preen’s other collection pieces available have distinctly Star Wars names, even though they don’t feature any Star Wars imagery – such as the Tatooine dress, Kenobi skirt, Naboo dress, Bantha blouse and even a Palpatine dress! I hope to see more Star Wars garments walking the Fashion Week runways in the future, it reminds us that Star Wars fashion isn’t just limited to t-shirts.
